Justice, Mercy,
& Missions

Justice and mercy are central to our apprenticeship to Jesus. We demonstrate the love of God by actively addressing local and global injustices, standing with the marginalized through tangible actions of peace and empowerment, and working towards righteousness and justice, fostering compassion through solidarity. We seek the shalom of God in Indianapolis and all of His creation by building covenant friendships, reconciling, learning from, serving, advocating for, and dreaming with our neighbors.

Vulnerable Families & Individuals

  • Circles is a community-driven program that works to increase upward mobility for individuals and families in poverty in Indianapolis.

Volunteers are called Allies and are the primary foundation of support for Circle Leaders. As an Ally, your job is to listen, ask questions, make suggestions, and be a true friend and supporter. You and 1-2 other Allies will help Circle Leaders use their unique gifts and skills to reach their goals, and Circle Leaders will help you better understand poverty in your community.

  • Circles meets every Thursday evening at Tabernacle Presbyterian to share a meal and offer community for individuals coming out of poverty. Volunteers are always needed to provide and serve a home cooked meal. This is a great opportunity for a Missional Community, a group of friends, or a family to engage in together. It can be a one-time or a recurring commitment.

  • Family Hope is a Christ-centered centered, church-led nonprofit that brings hope and stability to families walking through hard seasons. Family Hope equips trained volunteers to meet practical needs—through short-term hosting for children, mentoring, transportation, or emotional support—while trained Support Coaches guide parents toward stability and restoration. Nearly all children are reunited quickly with their families, and parents experience the encouragement of Christ-centered community as they work toward their goals.

This ministry offers many ways to get involved, and we invite you to prayerfully consider how your gifts—big or small—can help surround families in our city with the love of Jesus.

Circles meets weekly on Thursday evenings at 6pm at Tabernacle Presbyterian. While visitors are welcome to attend any Thursday, if you would like to go on a night when Soma folks are there, please reach out below.

Global Witness

  • Sinapis equips local entrepreneurs in emerging market economies to launch and grow profitable Kingdom businesses. Their companies build the economy and alleviate poverty by creating jobs. As they reflect Christ’s love in the marketplace, they can make disciples and fund the advance of the gospel from inside the culture.

Connect with Sinapis by attending and / or volunteering at local informational events, mentoring entrepreneurs in frontier markets, going on a vision trip, becoming a prayer partner (includes monthly global prayer calls), or donating.

  • Nicaragua Resource Network (NRN) is a volunteer-led non-profit organization that collaborates with Nicaraguan partners to address the spiritual, physical, medical, and educational needs of impoverished children and families. Soma has been partnering with NRN since 2019, with our main connection being our sister church, Iglesia Bethsaida.

Soma offers short-term trips throughout the year that will align with NRN’s vision and address the needs of Iglesia Bethsaida. These trips are great opportunities for our church to serve others with our time, talents, and God-given gifts. Our teams are relationally focused, but some center around various areas of gifting (medical, education, construction, college, youth, special needs, worship).

  • Serve our sister community by sponsoring students who are either currently enrolled at Rey Salomón I or have graduated from RS1. Primary or secondary sponsorship is $40/month, special needs is $50/month, and college sponsorship is $75/month.

Campus Witness

  • Sign up to be connected with one of Allison's 36 Cru Interns and commit to pray for them as they serve on their campus.

  • Share how the Gospel changes everything with college students at a Cru Gathering.

  • Contribute a catered meal (Chipotle, Chickfila, etc.) for a Thursday evening service with Cru at IU Indianapolis!

Support Missionaries

Houseless &
Homeless Care

We have forged a robust partnership with PourHouse, an outreach organization aiding individuals experiencing homelessness by addressing housing, treatment, and healthcare challenges. Within this collaboration, Soma Midtown operates the Welcome Home Team under PourHouse. This team facilitates the delivery of furniture and essential household items to newly housed clients, empowering them to establish a comfortable home environment.

  • Every Saturday morning, the Welcome Home Team seeks volunteers to assist individuals settling into their new apartments. Volunteers will help load furniture and household goods onto a box truck, deliver these items to apartments, and provide support through conversation and prayer over the neighbors we serve.

  • The Welcome Home Team's warehouse is stocked with generously donated furniture and home goods from individuals and organizations across the city. Your contributions make a real difference in helping families create comfortable homes.

If you have any gently used items such as dressers, beds, chairs, bedding, etc., donate here!

  • While many items in our warehouse are generously donated secondhand, there are essential items like trash cans, toilet brushes, shower curtains, and more that we need to purchase. To support us in keeping the warehouse stocked with these necessities, check out the Amazon wishlist.

  • The Lead Team oversees all aspects of the Welcome Home Team's operations, including warehouse supply and organization, managing large furniture donations, scheduling new client move-ins, and coordinating volunteers.

If you are passionate about serving individuals experiencing homelessness and have strong organizational skills, we would love to have you join our team.

Local Civic Revival

  • The AND Campaign offers a Biblical framework to engage with the community on civic and social issues with non-partisan, common-sense education, equipping believers to confront tribalism and promote unity. The AND Campaign helps believers bridge faith and politics for a more united public witness.  Join us for a monthly chapter meeting to learn more about what is happening in Indianapolis.

  • Listen here!

  • In the noise of our current cultural moment, it can be hard to know where to begin. The AND Campaign put together a beautiful Faith Civic Checklist that offers practices to help us integrate our faith and civic life. These practices move us beyond anxiety, division, and self-focus into prayerful, Christ-centered engagement with the world.

    • Pray for 10 min about one public issue on your heart

    • Read a passage on justice/mercy (Micah 6:8)

    • Sabbath from doom-scrolling

    • Listen to non-partisan news source to widen perspective

    • Serve one hour in a local ministry

    • Call an elected official about a policy that affects the vulnerable

    • Have one face-to-face convo across political lines—listen first

    • Thank someone who models civil, Christ-centered dialogue
